The courses will appeal to anyone who wants to become more adventurous and confident when choosing wine. The course enables the styles, tastes, and values to be compared, across all the major wine regions of the world.

 

All the vines that are used to produce grapes for wine developed in Europe. The course pays particular attention to the varieties that are special to each of the major Old World wine regions.

Despite the spread of modern winemaking technology, each region has special features. The course will highlight the factors that lead to a region specialising in particular grapes and making wines in a particular style.

For each of the wine regions there handouts include wine maps that show the places that are most famous for producing high quality wines.

Wine Regions covered include:

Argentina
Australia
California
Chile
France (Rhone, Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Southern France)
Italy
New Zealand
Portugal
South Africa
Spain

Each evening will there will be a talk on a particular theme, followed by a discussion and a tutored tasting

The course will enable wine to be chosen with enhanced confidence, and with knowledge of the contribution of winemaking, grape varieties, and region of origin.

 


The course is a University of Bath Community Course . It is given by Phil Cooke, an experienced university lecturer, holder of the WSET Diploma in Wine & Spirits, and a member of The Association of Wine Educators.
