Bath Wine Appreciation Circle

Meetings are held once a month in central Bath, usually on the third Monday of the month.

Themed evenings are tutored tasting's with a short talk by a wine expert. The wines are usually in the range £5 to £10.
These tasting's will expand your wine knowledge as well as providing an opportunity to taste a wide selection of wines suitable for everday drinking.
These evenings include French bread and cheese. Places are usually in the range £13 to £15

Fine Wine evenings feature premium wines. They also have a greater social dimension with more emphasis on informal discussion. At the mid-point break there is a selection of quality breads and cheeses plus a "supper wine" . Wines for these evenings are presented and selected by Phil Cooke.
Places at these evenings are usually £16

Meetings are organised by Phil Cooke. He is an experienced speaker, holds the WSET Diploma in Wines & Spirits, and is a Member of The Association of Wine Educators.

The Wines of South Africa

An Illustrated Talk and Tutored Tasting

by Phil Cooke

The first vineyards were planted in South Africa by early settlers from Europe. By the late nineteenth century, but before the arrival of phylloxera, the most expensive wine in the world was produced there. But recovery was slow, and 100 years later the South African wine industry was still in the doldrums. It was not until apartheid ended, that the South African wine industry began to modernise. Now they produce some very good value wines, and the best are of world class.

This is an opportunity to taste a selection of South African wines that have been chosen to illustrate the diversity, quality and value that is now on offer.

As usual there will be a selection of breads & cheeses available

7.30 pm at The Bath Society Meeting Room, at Green Park, adjacent to Sainsbury's
