Masterclass on The New Classic Wines

Thursday 4th March  (Fully Booked)

Venue : Museum of Bath at Work in Julian Road

Numbers are limited to 16

Presented by Phil Cooke

These evenings are an opportunity to expand your wine knowledge. You will taste some world class wines in the company of other wine enthusiasts. The format is dinner party style. Everyone sits around a long table, and the evening includes a selection of breads, cold meats and cheeses. The evening starts with an illustrated talk

This is an opportunity to learn about wines which are now regarded as World Class. The theme is taken from a seminal book by Oz Clarke, titled New Classic Wines, published in 1991. He featured wines from all over the world at a time when the wine trade were only vaguely aware of wines from the New World. His book was widely criticised. Now, less than two decades later his selections can be seen to be in tune with the palate of the the modern wine drinker.

A distinctive feature of the new classics is that the bottle label tells you what grape varieties have been used, the flavours are pronounced, and you can drink the wine with pleasure on the day you buy it. No need, and rarely any point, in long term cellaring. For this tasting I will select wines that are good examples of a wine style that did not exist 20 years ago, but are now regarded as classics.

This is an opportunity to taste wines of a style that did not exist 25 years ago, and often from wine regions that were then unknown, but are now regarded as classics. The illustrated talk will fill in the background.

The evening will include breads, and a selection of quality cheeses and cold meats.

The evening will be presented by Phil Cooke who is a Member of the Association of Wine Educators
