Masterclass on Burgundy

Wednesday Evening: 7.30 on 14th October

Venue : Museum of Bath at Work in Julian Road

Numbers are limited to 15

Presented by Phil Cooke

These evenings are an opportunity to expand your wine knowledge. You will taste some world class wines in the company of other wine enthusiasts. The format is dinner party style. Everyone sits around a long table, and the evening includes a selection of breads, cold meats and cheeses. The evening starts with an illustrated talk

This is an opportunity to learn about the world famous wines of Burgundy. Burgundy is just far enough north to produce a world famous white wine. And Burgundy is just far enough south to be warm enough to produce a world famous red. The very best vineyards sites were identified many years ago, and they are often very small in size. This leads to a fragmented situation with lots of very small growers and producers. Moreover because the climate is marginal and the wine making style unsuited to industrial scale production there is a lot of variation. But when everything comes together you have an unforgettable wine. That is why top winemakers in all parts of the world aspire to make a wine that can compete with a Grand Cru Burgundy.

Because the very best vineyards in Burgundy are tiny, and the wine is sought by rich people all over the world Burgundy is not cheap. However the very best wines do not reach their peak for many years, which means that on release date lesser wines give more pleasure!

This is an opportunity to learn about the wines of Burgundy and to sample the wines that made Chardonnay and Pinot Noir world famous. In late September/early October I will be visiting Burgundy, by invitation of the wine producers, so I will be able to include information that is very up to date

The evening will include breads, and a selection of quality cheeses and cold meats.

The evening will be presented by Phil Cooke who is a Member of the Association of Wine Educators
